Poultry water
Ranchers in the Americas, Australia and Southern Africa are enthusiastic users of solar water pumps. Their water sources are scattered over extensive pastures, with few power lines and high transport and maintenance costs. Some ranchers use solar-powered water pumps to distribute several kilometers (more than 5 kilometers) of pipe. Others use portable systems and move them from one water source to another.
Vegetable water
Solar panel pumps are used on small farms, orchards, vineyards and gardens. It is most economical to power the pump most directly from the photovoltaic array (without batteries), store the water in the tank, and then distribute the pump via gravity flow. In cases where pressurization is required, the battery stabilizes the voltage to maintain consistent flow and distribution, and can eliminate the need for storage tanks. Batteries also introduce cost, complexity and additional maintenance.
